HOLIDAYS DURING THE PANDEMIC

#11 Holidays during the pandemic

On March 20, 2021, the adopted Decree No.160 of the Government of the Slovak Republic enters into force, which extends the state of emergency, regulates the curfew, and limits travel abroad.

The resolution introduced by the government prohibits travelling abroad for recreational purposes. The resolution does not explicitly define the term, which was introduced as "recreation".

In general, however, this concept is perceived as a holiday trip, which means that citizens of the Slovak Republic will no longer be able to travel abroad, for example, to relax at their cottage abroad. On the other hand, the repair of such a cottage is not an obstacle to travel abroad. It remains only to wait how the public authorities will deal with such an amendment, of which the idea is criticized.

Regarding travel, which is of other purposes than for holidays, citizens can travel abroad without restrictions within:

  1. urgent medical care;
  2. travel regarding work duties; and
  3. travel for educational purposes.

In connection with the prohibition of travelling, we should also take into account the issue of return from abroad between 05:00 and 01:00 AM. That is, because it will also be necessary for the person to show a negative PCR or antigen test result due to the curfew. The curfew continues to apply, for which a fine of up to EUR 1,000 may be imposed for infringement. It is also necessary to prove the presentation of credible documents regarding the purpose of the trip.
