#30Change of rules for tradesmen

Parliament approved an amendment to Act No. 455/1991 Coll. on Trade Licensing (Trade Licensing Act), which came into effect on August 1st, 2021. This amendment eliminates several obligations for self-employed tradesmen in order to reduce the administrative burden.

According to the amendment, among others:

  1. the minimum and maximum length of trade suspension will no longer be adjusted;
  2. the regulation for proving professional competence in craft trades and the deadline for proving professional experience will be reduced;
  3. the number of craft and related trades will be reduced; or
  4. the fine for non - notification or cancellation of the establishment shall be reduced to a maximum of EUR 663.-

According to this amendment, the tradesman will be able to determine the length of the minimum and maximum duration of the suspension of the trade. The tradesmen will be able to notify the relevant trade licensing department at any time regarding the change in the suspension of the trade.

Pursuant to the new regulation, the trade licensing department no longer requires duplicate provision of information previously provided or information that is available to said department from other sources and databases.

Furthermore, the amendment removes the tradesmen’s obligation to request the opinion of the Slovak Chamber of Commerce in the remission of an obstacle in the operation of a trade. It also simplifies the termination of the function of the responsible representative, which is sufficient to do so by notification and, last but not least, the deadline for notifying the establishment of the establishment has been extended to 15 days from the date of its establishment.
