The Financial Administration (FA) introduced the option to pay taxes with credit cards last year. Online payment of administrative fees and 15 types of taxes directly through the Financial Administration portal (FAP) will ease and simplify payments for taxpayers this year as well.

The introduction of the option to pay taxes and administrative fees with a credit card through the online portal of the Financial Administration represents a significant step towards modernizing and streamlining the tax system in Slovakia. This innovation offers several advantages for taxpayers, including simplifying the payment process and providing greater flexibility in choosing the method of payment. The ability to pay with credit cards through various services such as Google Pay, Apple Pay, or selected bank internet banking systems ensures a quick and secure transaction, contributing to the smooth functioning of the tax system and allowing taxpayers to plan their finances more effectively.

The amendment to the law on administrative fees, changing the rates of services provided by the Financial Administration from April 1, 2024, demonstrates a continuous effort to adapt legislation to new technological possibilities and the needs of taxpayers. However, changes in rates and payment deadlines are inherently linked to the responsibilities of taxpayers, who should be promptly informed about new rules and payment deadlines. The introduction of the option to pay administrative fees through credit cards from the electronic mailbox on the Central Public Administration Portal is a welcomed step towards simplifying the process and increasing the accessibility of electronic services.

Nevertheless, it is crucial for the Financial Administration to communicate extensively with taxpayers and provide necessary information about these changes to minimize potential uncertainties or misunderstandings. Overall, it is essential to monitor how this new functionality will be implemented in practice and how it will be received by taxpayers. Additionally, it is important to keep an eye on whether any issues or discrepancies arise and, if necessary, adjust the system to best meet the needs of all stakeholders.
